RadiusCar mission
Nikolai:
One general question is not really discussed yet - what should be the main task of RadiusCar.
I would define main tasks the following way:
- to keep track of general car statistics:
- fuel consumption
- fuel prices
- distance
- costs (fuel and overall)
- to show nice graphs of some statistical values
- be optically pleasant :)
- to allow user to export all data into csv for possible future usage in other programs.
The idea is that RadiusCar should be mainly a fuel consumption oriented program with good graphic. General costs track and reminders should be simply nice add-ons.
If an user wants to have sophisticated analysis of car costs, he or she can use any of a wide range of financial programs for PPC. There are financial programs, which do it better, allowing user to store and analyse all the expenses, while giving the possibility to extract the specific car costs. There is no need for RadiusCar to compete with such programs.
In short, I suggest to invest most efforts into program's GUI and graphics / diagrams.
You are right in the statement above. I think this could be moved into the main page as a new link. I will do that later.

Xmas greetings
Nikolai:
Hi Radius!
Marry Christmas and all the best in the New Year!
Radius:
Hi Nikolai!
Thanks for your wishes. Being so late I cannot send you any xmas greeting, but please enjoy the New Year's Eve party as well as the entire year 2006! I would like to wish the same to all the readers of this site.
Nikolai:
Thanks, Radius!
Actually, we celebrate Xmas 13 days later, on 7th of January. So you are definitely not late with Xmas greetings! :) And, frankly speaking, New Year is much more important celebration here.
I would like to join your greetings to all the readers of this site as well!
Regards, Nikolai
Fuel Types
thomasservice:
Nice Project!
One feature i would like, is to keep track of what fuel the car is filled with fi regular, premium, alcohol, diesel, canola oil etc.. since the fuel consumption may vary depending on fuel type, i am currently experimenting whit muliple fuels for my diesel car. And there is some people driving FFV or Bi-fuel vehicles around here whould be nice to see how fuel consumption varies due to fuel mixture :)
Regards, Thomas
Radius: Hi Thomas! Could you please tell me more about this proposal? Should there be a flexible list of available fuel types? Maybe some example would help me in understanding your needs.
Hi!
My basic needs is to keep track of how much of each fuel i use and what mileage i can get from them. In my diesel car i currently use diesel and Canola oil (rape oil) mixed in one tank. A flexible list would be nice as long as you can add fuel types as you go (like currencies). For the moment i can think of the following "standard" fuels in sweden, unleaded 95, 96 and 98, E85 (Ethanol), LPG, diesel, RME (Rape Metyle Ester) and special fuels as Shell V-power(99), Canola oil, used vegetable oil etc..
Basic is to be able to get the consumption of each fuel summarized and able to filter by fuel type. especially since the fuel cost/km and /l varies depending on the fuel used. as long as all data is enterd any further calculations can be made on the desk top after exporting the csv file.
If possible the fuel mixture percentage could be displayed after filling but not nessecerly. (to be able too decide what mixture is giving lowest cost/km
Thats all for now...
/Thomas
