There are several places where European and U.S. measuring systems are incompatible. RadiusCar will support both systems, but please help with the specification. Assume Radius is a Czech man from Europe so he understands metric system well.

The questions are

Where Is the Difference?

  • In the UK fuel is sold by the litre, distance is measured in miles. Consumption is measured in miles per imperial gallon. 1 gallon = 4.545 litres
  • In the US fuel is sold in gallons, distance is measured in miles and consumption is measured in miles per US gallon. 1 gallon = 3.785 litres
  • In Europe fuel is sold by the litre, distance is measured in kilometers and consumption is measured in litres per 100 km

So here is an overview of diffences in measuring units:

  1. Two (2) different measures for Distance Units
    • Kilometres / kilometers
    • Miles (1M = 1.609km) (I believe, UK and US use the same miles for their cars)
  2. Three (3) different Fuel Units
    • Litres / liters
    • US Gallons (1G = 3.785)
    • UK Gallons (1G = 4.545)
  3. a few different "Economy Units" (consumption or endurance)
    • l / 100km
    • km / l
    • UK MPG (Mileage - Miles per UK Gallon)
    • US MPG (Mileage - Miles per US Gallon)

Is it sufficient to have a global option for it?

(please start writing here)

I have tried finding a decent program to keep a log of fuel ups, and this is by far the best one I've seen. The problem is that I'm in the US, so I think that a global option to choose which system you use would be a great idea. This will let more people in more locations use the program.

Do we really need to convert from one system to another?

I really think so. For us USA users, this is by far the best Fuel management program there is! Given that RadiusFuel is european developed, those of us in the USA need to have the data in units of measure that we commonly use. As an added benefit, when I took two trips to Europe last year, I used RadiusFuel to keep track of the rental cars. It really opened up my eyes to the cost of fuel, and I could appreciate teh way RaduisFuel was developed.
